A new 60 inch television has been installed in time for World Cup. We invite you to support your favourite team here.
When England is playing the entertainment will not start until after the final whistle to ensure you don’t miss any of the action. We now have three televisions in the bar, so no matter where you sit you should be able to see at least one of them.
£100 World Cup Sweepstake.
For all England games plus the Semi-Finals and Final we will be holding a sweepstake for the time of the first goal scored during normal time.
Tickets will be numbered 1 to 45 plus 45+1, 45+2, 45+3, 45+4 and 46 to 90 plus 90+1, 90+2, 90+3, 90+4 and 90+5. There will be one ticket with referee printed on it.
If the first goal is scored after 45+4 or 90+5, then the holder of 45+4 or 90+5 wins. If the score is 0-0 after 90 minutes the referee wins.
Tickets at £1 each will be on sale from behind the bar prior to kick off.
The steward or her deputy’s decision is final.
Welfare Payout.
The June 2010 Welfare Payout will be made to qualifying members on Fridays between 7.00 pm and 9.00 pm and Sundays between 11.00 am and 1.00 pm during June, commencing on Sunday 6th June 2010.
The next Welfare Payments will be made in September 2010.
Charity Donations.
The club has donated £100 to the Kingsley Mums and Tots group to help pay for their trip to West Midlands Safari Park.
£100 has also been donated to the Headlands School.
Letter of Thanks.
A letter thanking us for the free hire of the concert room and the support & generosity of our members on the night has been received from the family of Lizzie Little. They tell us that they had a fabulous night. I’m sure all our members that attended will agree. The latest news is that the total raised is over £6,200 with money still coming in.
Please Support Good Causes.
There still some tickets available for the Natalie Hill charity night starring Northampton’s best ever group Accrington Stanley on June 5th. Tickets £5 each can be bought from the bar.
Also Delos Pyramid are hosting a Summer Disco at the Club on June 19th in support of the Cynthia Spencer Hospice Tickets £3 on the door.
Life Members and Pensioners’ Annual Day Out.
This years outing will take place on Saturday 26th June 2010.
As in previous years, a £5.00 deposit will be required which will be refundable on the day. The tickets may be obtained from John Carnegie-Brown or Pete Beaumont on the Welfare Table at the following times:
Sunday 11.00 am – 1 00 pm or 7.00 pm -9.00 pm
Monday - Thursday 12.00 noon - 4.00 pm
Friday 12.00 noon – 4 00 pm or 7.00 pm -9.00 pm

Olde English Cider.
It is with regret that due to lack of sales Thwaites Bitter will no longer be on offer. In time for the summer we will be offering our members a traditional English beverage in its place.
A recent review of Olde English Cider describes it as the most pleasant cider on the market; it is liquid gold as it leaves your taste buds alive and wanting more of the same, it is refreshing, bitter sweet and subtle. Olde English out tastes any other cider both foreign and indigienous.

I am trying to trace my brother in law, his name is Terry Hynes. I do believe he used to play darts for kingsley.
Terry worked at the main sorting office for royal mail, age 55 to 60, he used to live on Standens Barn estate, his wife was called June, had 2 sons, oh he used to have a ford granada car. Jacquie.

Mark Knight Memorial Trophy.
The poker players have purchased a trophy in memory of Mark Knight, which will be awarded to the player topping the league each season.
Pictured above is the first ever winner Ash Chudasama, club president Graham Burgess, Phil Knight and Lee Winter. Ash and Phil will be joined by Jonny Medeiros to represent Kingsley in June’s regional final.

CIU Annual General Meeting.
The Annual General Meeting of the CIU was held at the Opera House in the Winter Gardens Complex in Blackpool on Saturday 10th April 2010.
The meeting was charged with anticipation as it was chaired by our new National President, George Dawson with the backing of our new General Secretary Mick McGlasham, and contained two notices of motion put forward by the National Executive both of which were believed crucial to the future security and prosperity of the Union.
George Dawson's presidential address was charged with emotion decrying lack of support from the Breweries; all of whom he stated are now owned by Continental companies that are only interested in selling product, and have no interest in supporting outlets like our clubs. He warned how much we are alone in the world but that pulling together we have the ability to come through the recession into a prosperous future.
The auditor for the CIU presented the accounts for the year to 30th September 09. He warned that things could not go on as they are. The loss for the year was over £1 million and that is clearly not sustainable. He commended the upcoming motion to merge the associate and pass cards into one annual associate card costing only £2 of which 20 pence would be passed on to the club selling the card, and to make the purchase compulsory by every full member of every club.
The accounts and the annual report were accepted without debate.
Then came the motion to reduce the National Executive from 27 to 16 members. The motion was moved on behalf of the National Executive by Barry Slasberg and seconded by the Union Vice President John Tobin. No one came forward to either oppose or support the motion. The vote was a huge majority in favour of the motion. The reduction will come into effect at the next annual election in 2011.
The final motion was about the pass card and associate card as stated above. The motion was moved on behalf of the National Executive by the Union Accountant Steve Connell who offered a clear and reasoned argument for the proposal. He gave an clear statement of the consequences should our club members not be willing to pay £2 a year to support the movement. This was seconded by the chairman of the finance committee. It was followed by a healthy debate that went straight into a vote that did not look to provide the two thirds majority required to change the rules. No actual count was taken and the chairman declared the motion lost.
Finally the General Secretary gave a review of many items currently concerning the CIU.
A full verbatim report of the meeting will be published in the next edition of the Journal.
The results of both of the motions will each have far reaching implications for the future of CIU. There are certainly some very interesting and challenging times ahead. We will attempt to keep you fully informed of developments as they arise.
Equality Act Receives Royal Assent.
The Equality Act 2010 received Royal Assent from Parliament on 8th April 2010. The Act was pushed through Parliament before it dissolved for the General Election. The main provisions of the Act will not come into force automatically. They will need to be brought in by Ministerial Order. It was anticipated that the Act would come into force in October 2010, but this may now change.
The Act consolidates the numerous pieces of existing discrimination legislation into one Act. It introduces new laws banning discrimination in private clubs in respect of members, potential members, associates, guests and potential guests and generally strengthens anti-discriminatory legislation. The Act protects against discrimination (subject to certain exemptions) in respect of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnerships, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or beliefs, sex and sexual orientation.
An issue covered by the Act, which is pertinent to clubs, is the banning of discrimination in private clubs. For example, sex discrimination will be unlawful (except in relation to single-sex clubs) and so will age discrimination against people aged 18 and over where goods are brought and services provided (subject to certain exceptions).
The Government in the process of producing draft codes of practice with relation to the Act. It is safe to say that once the law comes into force there will be no discrimination between the rights and obligations of men and women members in our club, but as stated earlier, the time for implementation is yet to be decided.
We will keep you informed as matters progress.
Room Hire.
We still have a few vacant Saturdays in 2010. If you are planning an event this year don’t leave it to late.
The cost to hire the concert room is only £150. You can also hire it on Sunday afternoons for Christenings at a reduced rate. We also have several smaller rooms available mid week. If you would like details contact the secretary on 01604 719800.

On Saturday evening 10th April the club was like a football or rugby match, the noise from the regular drunks shouting at the top of their voices made a lot of regular customers leave. This club has a lot of older customers who do not appreciate the noise from these hooligans. They should have been asked to leave and not be served with more drink i.e. spirits.

It is only natural for sport to bring out the passion in its supporters. No one would deny a hearty cheer, an urging to do better or a groan at some stupid mistake.
Noise to be so loud and menacing that people feel uncomfortable and threatened in their own club should not happen.
By all means show passion, but please temper this with consideration for other members who do not share the passion but do want to share the club's facilities in peace with their own company and supporters of sport.
Delos Pyramid Supports Cynthia Spencer At Kingsley.
Delos Pyramid is registered with the Care Quality Commission and helps adults with learning disabilities to live independently.
They are hosting a Summer Disco at the Club on 19th June in support of the Cynthia Spencer Hospice to which members of our club; their guests and associates are welcome.
With tickets at only £3 on the door, this should be a good night supporting two good causes.

Brian was a keen golfer and represented the club in the Air-Gun league.
