Special Meeting.
A special meeting for members was held in the club on 21st November where several notices of motion were considered. Twenty four members including 14 members of the Committee were present. This meeting was convened by the Committee to align the club with the Equality Act that is now law and to preserve the security of our members by registering the club under the Industrial and Provident Society Acts.
The first motion was that the club should adopt the interpretation rule giving all women members equal right to men. This was adopted unanimously.
The second motion was that there shall be one class of member only, that of full member holding both the Union Associate Card and Pass Card. This was adopted unanimously.
The third motion was that the date women joined the club with restricted rights shall count towards their years of continuous membership in calculating life membership awards. There were 23 in favour and one against. The motion was adopted.
The fourth motion was that for 2011 there shall be one rate of subscription being £8.00 as agreed at the last AGM for full members. (Women will have to pay an addition £3.00 to purchase an Associate card for one year only) This was adopted unanimously.
The fifth motion was to change to registration under the Industrial and Provident Society Acts. There were 9 in favour and 14 against. The motion failed
The sixth motion was to adopt the model temporary affiliates rule subject to deletion of one paragraph. This was adopted unanimously.
Secretary's comment
We are proud to be a democratically run club. Democracy only has a real value when everyone who has a vote uses it. When 24 out of 1800 members bother to attend such an important meeting, it makes one's heart sink.
Women will become full members on paying their subscriptions in 2011. They will be welcome at the next Annual General Meeting and become eligible to stand for the Committee with effect from 1st July 2011.
This is a historic time in the social development of the club. The next few years will see if my continuous campaigning for the equality of women will prove to have been a wise course of action for Kingsley Park Working Men's Club. I have absolutely no doubt it will have been.

Why Not Have A Laugh?
Your Committee takes very seriously the comfort and enjoyment of all our members and guests of all the clubs facilities. Heaters were provided at considerable cost for smokers' comfort through the bad weather. Those people who abuse the heating by sabotaging the timer and deliberately breaking the heaters, thus depriving members of a bit of comfort seem to be just having a laugh. Those people who take pleasure in vandalising seating in the bar and the snooker room seem to be just having a laugh.
You mindless morons who are causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage are simply putting pressure on the price of your drinks. For heaven’s sake get your brain cell in working order and have a bit of a laugh at jokes instead of at all the people who want to enjoy the company and facilities of the club that you are recklessly spoiling.

Welfare Payout.
The December 2010 Welfare Payout will be made to qualifying members on Fridays between 7.00 pm and 9.00 pm and Sundays between 11.00 am and 1.00 pm during September, commencing on Sunday 5th December 2010.
The next Welfare Payments will be made in March 2011.
Subscriptions 2011
Membership subscriptions for 2011 have been affected by the Equality Act that forbids differentiating the treatment of people on the grounds of age or sex.
The subscription for all members for 2011 will therefore be that agreed at the last Annual General Meeting of £8.00 per member, be they male, female or over 65. Life members will only have to pay £3.00 for their pass card.
For one year only women members will have to pay an extra £3.00 to buy the Associate card that gives membership of all Working Men's clubs subject to the same restrictions men suffer.
Partners of members who have not themselves been members are not affected by this legislation and can still enter the club unhindered on the arm of their member partner; but they cannot come to the club on their own or buy alcoholic beverages from the bar.
Subscriptions shall be taken in January as follows:
Sundays 9th 16th 23rd 30th from 11.00 to 13.00
Mondays 10th 17th 24th 31st from 19.30 to 21.00
Tuesdays 11th 18th 25th from 19.30 to 21.00
Wednesdays 12th 19th 26th from 19.30 to 21.00
Fridays 14th 21st 28th from 19.30 to 21.00
Saturdays 15th 22nd 29th from 12.00 to 13.30
Members who have not paid by the end of January become members in arrears and cannot enter the club or use its facilities until they come in to pay their subs at the following times in February.
Sundays 6th 13th 20th 27th from 12.00 to 13.00
Mondays 7th 14th 21st 28th from 19.30 to 21.00
Those who have not paid by 28th February cease to be members in accordance with the rules.
You may pay in person at one of the above sessions or a friend or fellow member may pay on your behalf. They just need to bring your red or white membership card. You may pay by cheque through the post enclosing your membership card and a stamped self-addressed envelope. If you are having difficulty in arranging payment by the due date please contact the Secretary. We do not want to lose one member through non-payment of subscriptions

The Vat Man Cometh.
Everyone must be aware that the rate of VAT is to be increased from 17.5% to 20.0% with effect from 4th January 2011.
It is with regret that this increase has to be reflected in bar prices from that date and therefore the price of all VATable items will be increased by 5 pence. Because of rounding, some half pints that were increased last time round will escape any increase this time. Equally, some that escaped last time will see a 5 pence increase this time.
There have been some horrific forecasts of what will happen to prices next year. With all that is going on in the country today there can be no certainty of what 2011 may bring but please be assured that your Committee is in active negotiations with our suppliers to ensure that the best deals possible are put in place to keep prices as low as humanly possible.

Letter Of Thanks.
Charlotte Faulkner & Julie Byrne would like to thank the members that supported their Motown disco evening on November 6th where they raised £1507 in the memory of Evon White, for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Charity Event.
There are a limited number of tickets still available for our charity night on December 4th to raise money for the Macmillan Haematology Suite at Northampton General Hospital. Tickets cost £2 and are available from behind the bar.
Rugby Tickets.
We were given tickets by Carlsberg for the England v Australia game at Twickenham. The committee decided to sell the tickets to raise money for the Macmillan Haematology Suite at Northampton General Hospital. We are pleased to announce that we raised £160 for this good cause.
Mini Tote & Treasure Chest.
There will be no Mini Tote or Treasure Chest in the week leading up to Christmas. Tickets will be back on sale on Boxing Day for the next draw.

Skittles xmas knockout will take place on December 17th. The competition is open to male and female members. The last date for entry is December 12th.
Redtooth Poker.
The latest seasons winner was Lea Winter Jnr. Accepting the trophy on his behalf from Richard Shanahan are Luke Baker and Martin Lynch.
Lea Luke and Martin go forward to represent Kingsley in he regional finals.
Men’s Skittles. We have to congratulate the team after a great effort saw them win against St James WMC for the second time in a season. I have been informed that this is the first time that this is has ever happened.

Letter of Thanks.We have received a letter from Opus Energy. Thanking us for the use of the concert room for their event to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. They tell us that they have raised £2,000. Well done to all our members that supported them.
Obituaries.
John Collins sadly passed away on 9th October after a long and painful illness.
John had been a member of this club for twenty years and on the Committee for the last four years giving invaluable service on the Finance Committee.
He was a businessman in his own right and gave unstintingly of his time and expertise in support of the club.
Though he would never brag about anything, John refused to take the beer tickets or the quarterly honorarium granted by the membership.
If he couldn't say anything positive he would not say anything at all. He had and earned the respect of every member of the Committee and all those members he came in contact with.
He was ever ready with a smile and a wicked quip, even in the late stages of his illness. Many a lesser man would have given up well before John who performed his Committee duties until he was physically unable to do them and you never heard a complaint about the pain and discomfort he was constantly suffering.
We sadly say goodbye to a giant of a character; a consummate friend of the Club and an exceptionally nice man. He will be sorely missed by us all.
It was John's wish that the club raise funds for the new Haematology Unit at the General Hospital that is run by Macmillan nurses. We have already had two functions in aid of this and there are more to come. His aim was to raise at least £1000 for this project that meant so much to him. On his behalf you are invited to attend these functions or just drop the odd fiver in the bucket in the club.
Our deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Doreen and family.
Tom Porter. Our condolences to his wife Angie and to his children, family and friends.
Ken Ashby. Our thoughts are with his wife Rita, his children and grandchildren.
Geof Washington. Concolances to his wife Carol, children their family and friends.

Macmillan Cancer Support and Northampton General hospital NHS Trust have joined forces to create a state of the art Macmillan Haematology Suite at Northampton General Hospital, providing chemotherapy for people with cancers of the blood such as leukaemia and lymphoma.
You may have noticed the green buckets on the bar and in the concert room after bingo sessions.
On Thursday 30th September during the gig by The 5 Tornadoes we raised £295. Our aim is to raise over £1000.
To help us reach our target we are holding an evening of top entertainment on Saturday 4th December in the concert room. Starring comedian Paul Le Vent supported by Boy/Girl Duo D V 8.
Tickets will be on sale shortly priced £2.00.
On the night there will be a raffle and bucket collection.

On Thursday 7th October the Northampton Working Men’s Club Ladies Darts League held their annual Charity Pairs Knockout at Kingsley.
Kingsley provided both finalist in a thrilling game Katrina Birch & Lesley Page emerged as winners defeating Kathy Maclean & Heather Williams. Congratulations to both pairs.
Congratulations to Glyn Williams of the Air-Gun section for winning the town league indivisuals.
Congratulations also go to Kingsley A Crib team who were runners-up in the club knockout.
We would like to welcome two new teams to our exciting games section. On Mondays we have a new Pool Team and on Tuesdays we have a new Table Tennis team. Members are invited to give them support.

We’re in the Pink.
We would like to welcome Louise Pink as the assistant to Sarah into the Kingsley Team.
Louise has huge experience in pubs and bars in this country and abroad.
We hope you have a long and enjoyable stay at Kingsley Park Working Men’s Club.
Half Year Results.
We are pleased to be able to announce some good news for the first time in some years. Our management accounts to 30th June 2010 show a deficit of only £3700. This is an improvement on last year of over £30,000 for the same period. There is still some way to go before we can once again feel secure, but this can only be described as an exceptional turn around in the situation this country is suffering from.
Thanks must go to the many members and associates who remain loyal to the club through thick and thin, and the staff who have accepted change and also remained loyal through these trying times.
Our Member of Parliament Visits.
At the invitation of the General Secretary Michael Ellis, our newly appointed Member of Parliament, visited the Club on 17th September.
He spent an hour with the Secretary where many of our problems, mainly brought on by bad legislation, were acknowledged with Michael responding very favourably to our representations.
He then went into the bar and had a few minutes listening to, and responding to, the views of some of our members.
His parting shot was that he acknowledged the value of our Working Men’s Clubs to our communities and is willing to support our clubs both through Westminster and personal support in our clubs if we can give him enough notice.
As with all MP’s, he has hundreds of areas of concern across the whole of his constituency. The only way to keep high on the list of his priorities is to keep in touch with him. This will be done by your club’s management, but it gives more strength to our case if backed up by members getting in touch with him.
We will be emailing copies of our newsletter to Michael every month. If you have a concern you would like him to address and you are happy to have that concern published, just drop a line to The Secretary. If he thinks your letter is not appropriate and should be addressed privately or it is in need of editing he will contact you and keep you informed of action he is taking. His decision will be final.
Games news.
Congratulations to our snooker A team players that won both the Town League and the Town Cup.
Congratulations also to ladies darts players Amanda Cramphorn, Debbie Burton and Barbara Warwick who finished runners-up in the Fosters Dart League 3-A-Side knockout.
Snooker players are requested to cover the tables and switch off lights when they have finished their game.
The Smoking Ban.
Kingsley Park Working Men’s Club hosted a public meeting arranged by the organisation “Freedom to Choose” on 20th September.
Phil Johnson, chairman of that organisation chaired the meeting. Guests invited were Philip Hollobone, MP for Kettering; Chris Heaton-Harris, MP for Daventry and Barry Slasberg as President of the South East Midlands Branch of the CIU.
We were also pleased to welcome Sean Spillane representing Amend the Smoking Ban.com
Contrary to the newspaper headlines, the aim was not to reverse the ban but to relax it so that clubs that have space can have properly regulated smoking rooms for members to be able to enjoy a smoke in comfort without spoiling the enjoyment of the cleaner air that is being enjoyed by all since the smoking ban came in three years ago.
There was not a large attendance, but the two MPs were very positive and helpful with their comments.
It would be unwise to hold your breath in anticipation of any change in the near future. The ongoing problems caused by the ban are now being acknowledged with several European countries relaxing the ban to save clubs, pubs, livelihoods and community life.
Secretary’s Hours.
The Secretary has again agreed to a small cut in hours and a change of hours to more effectively support the club.
With immediate effect for a trial period his office hours will be
Sunday 9am to 2pm
Monday 9am to 2pm and 6pm to 10pm
Tuesday 5pm to 8pm
Wednesday 5pm to 8pm
Thursday 9am to 2pm and 6pm to 10pm
It should be noted that these are office hours. Those hours on the phone at home are additional and can be substantial.
Occasionally these hours will alter to fit in with his Branch and National Executive duties.

Obituaries.
Lil Burton. At 97 we believe Lil was our oldest member. Although Lil was living in Worthing for the last few years she kept up her membership. She was a regular bingo player and our condolences go to her son Derek and to her family and friends.
Robert Fall. Saints fan Rob used the club several times every week; he was always ready with a joke to cheer us up. He was very helpful to the friends who gathered around him in the club. A regular participant in our raffles and good causes. Condolences to his family and friends.

We would like to welcome Louise Pink as the assistant to Sarah into the Kingsley Team.
Louise has huge experience in pubs and bars in this country and abroad.

Half Year Results.
We are pleased to be able to announce some good news for the first time in some years. Our management accounts to 30th June 2010 show a deficit of only £3700. This is an improvement on last year of over £30,000 for the same period. There is still some way to go before we can once again feel secure, but this can only be described as an exceptional turn around in the situation this country is suffering from.
Thanks must go to the many members and associates who remain loyal to the club through thick and thin, and the staff who have accepted change and also remained loyal through these trying times.
Our Member of Parliament Visits.
At the invitation of the General Secretary Michael Ellis, our newly appointed Member of Parliament, visited the Club on 17th September.
He spent an hour with the Secretary where many of our problems, mainly brought on by bad legislation, were acknowledged with Michael responding very favourably to our representations.
He then went into the bar and had a few minutes listening to, and responding to, the views of some of our members.
His parting shot was that he acknowledged the value of our Working Men’s Clubs to our communities and is willing to support our clubs both through Westminster and personal support in our clubs if we can give him enough notice.
As with all MP’s, he has hundreds of areas of concern across the whole of his constituency. The only way to keep high on the list of his priorities is to keep in touch with him. This will be done by your club’s management, but it gives more strength to our case if backed up by members getting in touch with him.
We will be emailing copies of our newsletter to Michael every month. If you have a concern you would like him to address and you are happy to have that concern published, just drop a line to The Secretary. If he thinks your letter is not appropriate and should be addressed privately or it is in need of editing he will contact you and keep you informed of action he is taking. His decision will be final.
Games news.
Congratulations to our snooker A team players that won both the Town League and the Town Cup.
Congratulations also to ladies darts players Amanda Cramphorn, Debbie Burton and Barbara Warwick who finished runners-up in the Fosters Dart League 3-A-Side knockout.
Snooker players are requested to cover the tables and switch off lights when they have finished their game.
The Smoking Ban.
Kingsley Park Working Men’s Club hosted a public meeting arranged by the organisation “Freedom to Choose” on 20th September.
Phil Johnson, chairman of that organisation chaired the meeting. Guests invited were Philip Hollobone, MP for Kettering; Chris Heaton-Harris, MP for Daventry and Barry Slasberg as President of the South East Midlands Branch of the CIU.
We were also pleased to welcome Sean Spillane representing Amend the Smoking Ban.com
Contrary to the newspaper headlines, the aim was not to reverse the ban but to relax it so that clubs that have space can have properly regulated smoking rooms for members to be able to enjoy a smoke in comfort without spoiling the enjoyment of the cleaner air that is being enjoyed by all since the smoking ban came in three years ago.
There was not a large attendance, but the two MPs were very positive and helpful with their comments.
It would be unwise to hold your breath in anticipation of any change in the near future. The ongoing problems caused by the ban are now being acknowledged with several European countries relaxing the ban to save clubs, pubs, livelihoods and community life.
Secretary’s Hours.
The Secretary has again agreed to a small cut in hours and a change of hours to more effectively support the club.
With immediate effect for a trial period his office hours will be
Sunday 9am to 2pm
Monday 9am to 2pm and 6pm to 10pm
Tuesday 5pm to 8pm
Wednesday 5pm to 8pm
Thursday 9am to 2pm and 6pm to 10pm
It should be noted that these are office hours. Those hours on the phone at home are additional and can be substantial.
Occasionally these hours will alter to fit in with his Branch and National Executive duties.
Members Christmas Draw 2010.
Tickets for this years raffle are now on sale priced at £1:00 for a book of five. You can purchase tickets at the welfare table, from the doorman or from behind the bar.
Draw takes place Tuesday 7th December at 8pm. Prizes to be claimed by Friday 24th December.
Charity Raffle of unclaimed prizes Sunday December 26th December.
Obituaries.
Lil Burton. At 97 we believe Lil was our oldest member. Although Lil was living in Worthing for the last few years she kept up her membership. She was a regular bingo player and our condolences go to her son Derek and to her family and friends.
Robert Fall. Saints fan Rob used the club several times every week; he was always ready with a joke to cheer us up. He was very helpful to the friends who gathered around him in the club. A regular participant in our raffles and good causes. Condolences to his family and friends.
Children’s Pantomime.
This years pantomime Cinderella takes place in the concert room on Saturday 18th December 2010 from 2pm to 4:15pm.
Tickets are free for member’s children and grandchildren only and will be available in November as follows;
