Suggestion box.

Those eagle-eyed members amongst you will have spotted our new suggestion box; it is fixed to the column nearest to the main door in the bar. The committee are setting aside time each week to discus your suggestions, comments and questions. If you want an answer please leave contact details.
We have already implemented some suggestions, unfortunately we can’t lower the age that you are allowed to buy a drink to 16, the government wont let us.

Kingsley Park Bluegrass Jam.

The jam is open to all players of acoustic instruments and singers who appreciate the style of bluegrass and country music. Listeners are welcome.
The jam etiquette is as follows; The players sit is a circle with one lead person choosing the tune and taking the solo part, the remainder embellishing his/her playing/singing and or taking a lead break/fill in during the tune if they know the tune and are called on to do so.
During the session the solo part keeps moving round the circle in turn with each player/singer having the opportunity to take or decline it.

The jams will run monthly on the first Wednesday of the month starting on September 2nd at 8:00pm. In the Ken Taylor Lounge.

Rooms Available.

Would you like the free use of one of our rooms between Monday morning and Friday afternoon for your group or event?
We have rooms of various sizes available during opening hours for all types of usage. All we ask is that you make use of our refreshments. You don’t have to buy alcohol, we are quite happy to provide the coffee for your coffee morning, supply buffets etc all at reasonable prices to suit your needs.

Welfare Payout.

The September 2009 Welfare Payout will be made to qualifying members on Fridays between 7.00 pm and 9.00 pm and Sundays between 11.00 am and 1.00 pm during September, commencing on Sunday 6th September 2009.
The next Welfare Payments will be made in December 2009.

Members Notice board.

One of the requests in the suggestion box was for a member’s notice board so members could advertise their services etc on. It has been agreed that you may display postcard sized adverts (6x4). If any member wishes to use this service let me know and I will find a space for them.

Christmas Raffle.

Yes it’s that time of year again. Our Christmas draw tickets go on sale from the first week in September. Back by popular demand are the cash prizes. 1st £500, 2nd £250 & 3rd £100 Plus lots of other prizes.
Tickets will be on sale at the Welfare Table, from committee members, from the doorman and from behind the bar. Draw Tuesday December 8th.

Corridor Closed.

In an effort to save on energy cost, the corridor between the front door and the concert room will be closed from Monday morning to Friday afternoon.
If you need to use the disabled toilet or the baby changing room please ask the bar staff to open the door for you. Otherwise please use the bar toilets.

Old newsletters.

All the old newsletters published between November 2001 and December 2005 are now available on our website. http://kingsleyparkwmc.blogspot.com/
Soon you will be able to read the newsletters from 2006 to present. They are well worth a read, you can see the ideas that sounded good at the time but failed to take off. Also things that keep cropping up time after time.

Friday Night Disco.

Friday night’s entertainment will now be our very own Bob Horner with his Disco. Bob has access to all type of music, if you have a favourite song ask Bob and he will try and find it for you.

Smoking Area.

Despite further spending on the smoking area members continue to abuse it. It took less than a week for someone to force open the locked door.
We have now been forced to spend further and buy a lock and chain for the door. The smoking area should be cleared by 11:00pm, this does not mean you all wait until 10:58 to make your way out to start your last cigarette, it means you should be finished. If anyone is found in the smoking area after 11:00 they might find themselves on a charge for breaking club rules.
Taxi, Free Phone Service.

It has been decided to do away with the coin phone box in the corridor. This phone was costing us more to rent than we were receiving in charges, it was mainly used at the end of the night to ring for a taxi. So to save you money we now have a free phone that goes straight through to Mayfair taxis. The phone is situated above the counter in the doorman’s office. To justify this service it must be used.
We have taken out the line with the number 715514. In future please use our main number 711002 for general purposes and 719800 for the secretary.

Special Edition Newsletter.

As your Management Committee we are ever aware of our responsibility to you, our members. The credit crunch has affected every one of us to one degree or another. As a management we sought to cushion the effects on you by reducing the cost of drink in the Autumn of 2008. Whilst doing this we have also continually monitored all of our costs in the hope that savings coupled with increased visits by members and associates would finance the price cuts.

We have just prepared our six months accounts that show a further deficit of £34k that must be immediately addressed. Our expenses have been managed very stringently whilst ensuring that our services were not affected; but the sad fact is that less people have been coming to the club.

The management committee has decided that:-

As very few people come to the club before noon on weekdays, the opening time for the club will be put back to 12.00 noon with effect from Monday 10th August.

The following price increases at the bar will take effect from effect from Monday 3rd August 09

All draught beers and lagers will be increased by 10 pence per pint with the exceptions that no increase will take the price of a pint over £2.50 and Ansells will not be increased. This is only reclaiming half of the price decrease from last year. It is also ensuring a good quality cheap bitter is available for those on a very restricted budget.

All alcoholic bottled beers and alcopops will be increased by 10 pence.

All minerals will be increased by 5 pence. For bag in box items (Draught Pepsi/Lemonade)this will be 10pence for a pint.

Wines and spirits will be increased by 5 pence per single measure. Baileys, Tia Maria and double measures will be increased by 10 pence as will single serve wines.

Our filled rolls will be increased to £1.25. These are exceptional value even at the increased price.

We are going to continue our entertainment 3 nights a week, but hope you will enjoy the new format that we will be developing over the next few weeks.

Last year the decision of the Committee to sell the minibus was rescinded with teams paying for trips to venues. Despite a £500 contribution the minibus has still cost the club over £3000 excluding depreciation that would be in the region of £2000. Bookings will be honoured to 31st October. A final decision has been made to dispose of the bus on that date.

We are keeping the club’s expenses under constant review and are determined to continue to strive to ensure your club retains its hard-earned reputation as a very high quality venue is maintained. We will continue to keep bar prices to a minimum, but must once again urge our members to come to the club as their venue of choice if we are to come through the credit crunch smiling.
